We receive asked a whole lot how come Infrared Panel Heater so efficient so within this week’s blog we thought we might have got a crack at answering exactly that question.
A lot of the reasons infrared heating is so efficient come from the fact it can be radiant heating compared to convection heating.
So what is the real difference between these kinds of heating? Well put simply, radiant heating heats solid objects directly where as convection heating heats the atmosphere.
Since you are heating a surface part of the building instead of a volume, this infers a reduced heating capacity requirement when you opt for infrared hence you can find away with a lower wattage. Another key benefit of radiant heating (i.e. the temperature created from our infrared heating range) is the fact that since you are heating solid objects, once you shut down the high temperature source, it will take far longer for your room to cool off. Imagine the infrared heater is opposite a wall – the wall will absorb the infrared and heat. This wall, especially when it is well insulated will slowly release this heat into the room. When you have a radiator attempting to heat the equivalent space, your room will unquestionably heat – but the reason an occupant would feel warm upon entering that room will be the air is warm. When the door on the room is opened for example, the warm air will quickly escape and also the room will feel cold again – requiring the heating being excited again.
Consequently, less energy is required to top up the heating should you use infrared heating – which obviously means lower energy bills.
Another advantage of infrared heating would be that the thermostat may be set far lower (compared to a room heated by convection) because the walls and objects inside a room get warm (including you when you are standing looking at it!). In some instances you may set the space up to 3 degrees lower yet still feel no real difference 68dexnpky warmth. This means the Infrared Patio Heater can turn off much faster enabling you again to benefit from lower bills.
Therefore the reasons first and foremost compared radiant heating directly with convection heating, there is however one more reason our collection of infrared heating systems are incredibly efficient. Where as the old style infrared heaters used thick solid bars of resistance metal to have very hot (they glowed orange) to emit infrared, our new style heaters have far thinner wires densely distributed across the whole of your part of the panel, meaning they could operate at far lower density in comparison to the old style infrared heaters.
